You DO NOT want to do the bloodtests on a fasted horse. The fasting requirements are leftover from human testing protocols. If you use samples from a fasted horse for the insulin/glucose levels they results will be unnaturally low and will give you incorrect results. A horse is meant to be a trickle feeder and you need to know what the body is doing when there is feed being processed. If the vets are insisting on fasted samples, just smile sweetly, nod your head and tell them your horse was fasted but be sure to make sure she has hay right up until the time of the testing. You can remove any "evidence" right before the vet arrives. The fasting might also cause your horse to have an exaggerated ACTH because she is stressed from missing her feed.
